GES Releases 2025/2026 Academic Calendar for Senior High Schools
GES has set October 2025 as the reopening date for SHSs, with new calendars and WASSCE scheduled for April–June 2026.
GES 2025/2026 Senior High School Academic Calendar and Reopening Dates
The Ghana Education Service (GES) says senior high schools will reopen in October 2025 for the 2025/2026 academic year.
In a notice issued on August 20, 2025, GES explained that schools will run on two systems: a single-track and a modified double-track (called the transitional calendar).
- Reopening dates:
- First- and second-year students: October 18, 2025
- Third-year students: October 11, 2025
- First term: October 2025 – February 27, 2026
- Christmas break: December 20, 2025 – January 4, 2026
- Second term: May 4 – August 21, 2026
For double-track schools:
- First years return on October 18, 2025
- Third years return on October 27, 2025
- Second years return on January 5, 2026, starting with five weeks of online lessons before fully resuming in May.
The 2026 WASSCE will run from April 20 to June 20, 2026.
Students will also have a travel window from December 20 to 22, 2025, before the Christmas break.
The next school year (2026/2027) will begin on September 11, 2026.
GES says the new timetable is to make sure all senior high schools run smoothly and consistently.
